1st General Assembly (17/10-19/10 2015)

We started the first meeting of the European Pupils Association in Vienna on Friday evening. After a welcoming speech we firstly let the participants introduce themselves and their organisations as well as their national school systems. After the ice-breaking and exchange of information we started with a brainstorming about relevant educational issues we could focus on in workshops.

On Saturday we chose the following three topics as the most important: “Political and European education”, “Schoolbooks” and “Modern Media”. Every subject was assigned to a workshop in which participants had the task to analyse the status quo of each country and from this point elaborate new demands for educational politics. These claims have been included in the policy of EUPAS and will be promoted by us from now on.

In the afternoon we started our General Assembly with interesting and motivating speeches by guests from Wilfried Martens Centre, EDS and DEMYC. Subsequently we had our first elections during which Pascal Scheller was elected to Chairman of EUPAS and Thomas Gaar was chosen as General Secretary. The board consists of one Vice-Chairman per member organisation which are from the Netherlands, Croatia, Greece, Cyprus, Germany and Austria. Furthermore we voted about the claims we wanted to campaign for as part of our policy.

After the General Assembly we made an event plan for the upcoming year. We talked about the next meetings and several other important projects as for instance the website, a campaign in Croatia and seminars on soft skills.

On Sunday we focused on feedback for the weekend and ideas for the next months. In addition the participants had the chance to find out more details about the national work of the other organizations.
